November 2018 – Visited with family and friends
We all met in Soa Airport near Bajawa and from there we drove to the coast to Mbay, the capital of Nagekeo. We reached Riung in about 3.5 hrs with stops along the way. We stayed two nights at our friend’s place in DelMar home stay. It’s low season during this period and we were almost alone in this paradise. There are a few small fishing villages along the coast. Next morning early up to take the boat out to the islands. Clear water all shades of blue and kilometres of reefs. The islands are uninhabited.
Much of the land on the coast has been sold to hotel developers. Construction of new road along the North coast has begun – connecting Labuan Bajo to Maumere and passing Riung directly. This will open up the area and I am so happy that I visited Riung now. It is still pristine and authentic.
Bought fish in Mbay for BBQ lunch on the way to Riung
Travelled with Anouk, Loty, Joe, Tiina, Jimmy & Deden .
